Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a fun, free rogue-like game of exploration and treasure-hunting in dungeons filled with dangerous and unfriendly monsters in a quest for the mystifyingly fabulous Orb of Zot.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is a variant of Linley's Dungeon Crawl that's openly developed and invites participation from the Crawl community.

Dungeon Crawl has superb, deep tactical gameplay, innovative magic and religion systems, and a grand variety of monsters to fight. Crawl is also one of the hardest roguelikes to beat. When you finally beat the game and write your victory post on rec.games.roguelike.misc, you know you've achieved something.

One of the best turn-based strategy games for Linux, Mac or Windows

I don't know of a better turn-based computer game. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is the best there is and has been so for a long time. Forget the hoopla about commercial games or fancy graphics. DCSS has everything one will ever want in a game and the replay value is excellent, in part because the game receives active development and constantly is getting new features. Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup fully supports Linux, Windows and Mac. The system requirements are modest.

For those who feel that the game is too tough, see http://techlorebyigor.blogspot.com/search/label/dungeon%20crawl%20cheat for two methods of making the game easier.

Very hard!

Now, I'm a seasoned NetHack player and I think this game is *very* hard. It's also a whole lot larger than NetHack.
